The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is testing a new concept dubbed “GPS Gum Ballsâ€. Picture a tiny GPS receiver embedded in a sticky gum-like substance about the same shape and size as a golf ball.
In the event of a high-speed chase you fire one of these GPS gum balls at the fleeing vehicle where it will hopefully stick to the car. Then the LAPD can back off the high speed chase and follow the vehicle via GPS navigation systems.
We hope they use sugarless gum since sugar probably isn’t good for tiny electronics equipment.
